Mr Leaning is a consultant clinical oncologist and has extensive expertise in delivering both radiotherapy and systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT); working at the nationally well regarded James Cook Cancer Institute based in Middlesbrough.
He specialises in the treatment of several different pelvic tumours, both at early and late stages including prostate, bladder, gynaecological and anal cancers.
Mr Leaning has a national reputation as a prostate cancer expert; extensively involved in cutting edge prostate cancer clinical research he has also led the development of the UK Molecular Radiotherapy Consortium (UK MRT Consortium) in response to the need to develop the nation’s readiness to the availability of a new generation of radio-isotope therapies, (also known as molecular radiotherapy – MRT for short) including Lutetium-PSMA 617 (for the treatment of men with metastatic castrate resistant prostate cancer). Mr Leaning has a clinical license to deliver this treatment to patients that qualify and is keen to ensure that patients living in the north of the nation (although he will consult with any patients wishing to discuss this treatment), where this service is currently not being offered, have the opportunity to be seen and treated by a UK leading expert with a dedication to compassion and care, and patient safety being delivered in a swift, diligent and pragmatic way.
