Mr Ashok Sakthivel is a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Urologist with a broad and in-depth training in urology. He has subspecialist interests in endourology, lithotripsy, and laser surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia (HOLEP). He is a practicing urologist for over 20 years and trained and worked both in India and in the UK as a higher surgical trainee within the Northern Deanery, before becoming a consultant at the James Cook University Hospital for over 10 years.
Mr Sakthivel takes pride in his contribution to the Endourology team, providing complex stone procedures and upper tract interventions. He has transformed the Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) service at the James Cook University Hospital, with the development of a rapid access service and training of the specialist nursing team to provide excellent and timely care to patients with kidney stones.
