Top Up Services

The Trust, on a case by case basis, will consider whether it is able to offer ‘top up’ services to NHS patients. These are services which are not available on the NHS, but may be delivered on a privately funded basis by the patient, in addition to NHS services.

The NHS will only fund certain types of lenses.  If a patient, whilst undergoing NHS eye surgery, wishes to upgrade to a type of lens not available on the NHS there is an option to do so.

There are a number of drugs which are not available on the NHS for treatment, however, if whilst undergoing NHS treatment and a patient wishes to be treated with such a drug this can be considered.

In these scenarios patients do not pay for the NHS treatment they are entitled to, they pay for the additional work, equipment, drug etc.
